Alois Finley

October 20, 1921 — May 2, 2026

Tyler, Texas

Alois Finley, 104, passed away peacefully in Tyler, Texas, on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

She was born on October 20, 1921, in Grayson County, in the community of Big Clifty, Kentucky, to Roy and Serena Tilford. From an early age, Alois was rooted in faith and family. As a young girl, she sang in church alongside her father and her two sisters, forming memories that would remain close to her heart throughout her life. Alois was a member of Gospel Assembly Church until 2011. She then attended General Assembly, Church of the Latter Rain, in Tyler, Texas until her departure from this life.

Alois was a woman of many gifts. She was known as a wonderful cook whose meals brought people together, and an exceptionally talented seamstress who created with both skill and care. Her deep religious faith guided her life and shaped the kindness she extended to others.

In her younger years, Alois often carried worry on her shoulders, but over time she found a lasting sense of peace. That peace became a source of comfort not only to her, but also to those who loved her. Her steady presence, grounded in faith and resilience, was a quiet strength for her family.

She was a devoted mother, a loyal friend, and a person who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Alois had a generous spirit and a heart full of compassion—she truly cared for others and did what she could to support them. Those who knew her often described her as “good as gold,” a reflection of her genuine goodness and warmth.

Along with her kindness, she carried a gentle sense of humor that brought light to everyday moments and joy to those around her.

Alois Finley leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Alois is preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Floyd H. Finley; parents, Roy Tilford and Serena Nichols Tilford; and sisters, Virginia and LaVerne.

Left to cherish her memory, Alois is survived by her children, Phyllis Rader (Robert), Harold Finley Sr. (Patricia), and Rebecca Potswald (William); 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
