It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved baby girl, Avaya Angilier-Shelton, who departed this world far too soon on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at her home in Louisville, Kentucky. She was just 9 months old.
Avaya was born a fighter—arriving early on January 9, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, to her devoted parents, Antonio Angilier-Shelton and Andranae Watkins. Though her time with us was brief, her presence left a lasting mark on everyone who had the joy of knowing her.
Affectionately known for her angelic smile and golden heart, Avaya radiated light and love. She found comfort in being held close, joy in listening to music, and delight in every bite during mealtime. Her gentle spirit and pure soul brought warmth to her family and a quiet strength that belied her tiny frame.
Avaya’s memory will forever be cherished by her parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, and all who were blessed to meet her. Her life, though short, was filled with love and left an imprint that will never fade.
Though she is no longer in our arms, she will always remain in our hearts.
“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” – A.A. Milne
Left to cherish her memory, Avaya is survived by her parents, Antonio Angilier-Shelton and Andranae Watkins; sister, Aivana; 3 uncles, Nathaniel Kennedy, Damon Hart, and Damoni Hart; aunt, Naveah Watkins; nana, Vermillion Shelton; and a host of additional aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service for Ms. Avaya Angilier-Shelton will be held at 1 PM on Monday, October 13, 2025, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2973 Wilson Ave, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM at the church, prior to the service. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
