Shepherdsville, Kentucky

Billy Joe “Bill” Lucas, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.

Bill was born on August 6, 1940, in Leitchfield, Kentucky, to Jesse and Dora Lucas. He lived a full and meaningful life defined by his devotion to family, strong work ethic, and appreciation for life’s simple joys.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Bill cared deeply for his family close to his heart. He was happiest when surrounded by loved ones and sharing stories about the yard sales he never would have.

Bill had a passion for collecting and a knack for finding hidden treasures. He especially enjoyed weekends spent yardsaling with family, always on the lookout for something unique to add to his collections. Among his favorite items were old Coca-Cola memorabilia, train collectibles, and just about anything that caught his interest.

He had a deep love for horses and horse racing, and he enjoyed some days at the track. In his free time, Bill also loved fishing, listening to his favorite country and classic rock music, and taking trips to Nashville with Rose, where they would visit museums and attend shows at the Grand Ole Opry.

Known for his determination and hardworking spirit, Bill took pride in fixing things and never left a job unfinished. He was also a gifted storyteller, especially at bedtime, and his sense of humor brought joy to everyone who knew him.

Bill will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bill is preceded in death by his son, Mark Wayne Lucas; and his parents; Jesse Willard Lucas and Dora Frances Lucas.

Left to cherish his memory, Bill is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rose Lucas; children, Jeremy Lucas (Tiffany), Billy Lucas Jr., Theresa Bruce (Gary), Ralph Lucas, Melissa Lucas, Jeffery Lucas, and Michael Lucas; grandchildren, Auggy Lucas, Abby Wheatley (Zack), Ally Lucas, Jason Lucas, Stephanie Whitaker, Michelle Wilson, many additional grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Devin, Paris, Landon, and several additional great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and close friends.
