Bonnie Mae Diehl

Jun 13, 1945 — Jun 29, 2026

Shelbyville, Kentucky

Every family has a favorite story, and Bonnie's favorite was how she met the love of her life, Albert. She told it countless times over the years, especially during the last few months of her life. We think it's only fitting to share it one more time.

Bonnie often laughed as she recalled meeting Albert at a children's crusade event in downtown Louisville. At the time, she was a young mother raising four children—Charlotte was 5, David was 3, Jeanette was 2, and Gary was just four months old. With her signature sense of humor, she would say that she "crusaded" Albert into helping her with all those kids. Thankfully, he was more than willing to do just that. Eight years later, they welcomed their daughter, Tabatha, completing the family they built together with love, faith, and unwavering devotion.

What began as a simple meeting blossomed into a lifetime of love and a family that continued to grow for more than 50 years. Bonnie's greatest joy was her family, and she poured her heart into each generation that followed. Bonnie Mae Diehl was the cherished daughter of the late Aaron Wayne and Lillie Bartley (Russell).

She was a proud and devoted mother to her five children: Charlotte Smith (Gary), David Mackowiak (Krissy), Jeanette Coakley (Eddie), Gary Mackowiak (Stephanie), and Tabatha Rigney (Rick). Her unconditional love, gentle guidance, and selfless spirit shaped the lives of her children and became the foundation upon which her family flourished.

She also leaves behind a remarkable legacy through her 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a growing number of great-great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward a piece of her love, wisdom, and the stories she treasured so deeply.

To know Bonnie was to know kindness, compassion, strength, and unwavering love. She welcomed others with an open heart, offered encouragement without hesitation, and made everyone around her feel like family.

As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that Bonnie's legacy lives on— not only in the generations she leaves behind, but in every lesson she taught, every laugh she shared, and every act of love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
