Connie Sue Powell

Connie Sue Powell, 72, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on November 21, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Jack and Mary Hawkins.

Connie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who cherished every moment spent with her family. She was a proud graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1971, and longtime employee at Central and Southern and later, Van Zandt, Emrich, and Cary. Connie carried her strong sense of community and connection throughout her life.

She found great joy in making her home a warm and welcoming place, especially during the holidays. Connie loved decorating with themed displays for every occasion, creating special memories for those she loved. Thanksgiving was particularly dear to her, as she delighted in cooking a big family meal and gathering everyone together. She also treasured time spent baking with her grandchildren—her cookies and macaroni casserole were family favorites.

Connie had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She enjoyed making funny videos with Scott to entertain their grandchildren, creating moments that will be cherished forever. She was strong and resilient, facing many health challenges throughout her life with courage and unwavering faith, finding her strength in the Lord.

In her spare time, Connie enjoyed crafting, traveling to Daytona, visiting Butler State Park, and, most of all, spending time with her family.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her love, laughter, and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Connie is preceded in death by her parents, Marion “Jack” Hawkins and Mary Newton Hawkins; and her brother, Gary Wayne Hawkins.

Left to cherish her memory, Connie is survived by her loving husband of nearly 48 years, Scott Powell; 2 daughters, Christy Ryle (Madison) and Jennifer Barnett (Nathan); and 4 grandchildren, Larkin Ryle, Darcy Ryle, Teagan Ryle, and Bradley Barnett.

A funeral service for Mrs. Connie Powell will be held at 1 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 1 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
