Louisville

David Neal Carlisle, 67, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

Born on July 9, 1958, in Louisville, David was the beloved son of Harold and Mildred Carlisle. He lived his entire life in the community he loved, building deep roots and lasting relationships with all who had the privilege of knowing him.

David was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and loyal friend. His family was the center of his world, and he found his greatest joy in spending time with them—especially spoiling his children and grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

A longtime Mason and Shriner, David was known for his strong sense of duty and his willingness to help others at a moment’s notice. He was dependable, generous, and always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. With a kind heart and giving spirit, David never met a stranger—only friends he hadn’t met yet.

Though he was naturally quiet and laidback, David’s personality shone brightest among those he loved. He was outgoing in the company of family and friends, always ready with a warm smile, a laugh, or a story. His easygoing nature and great sense of humor made him a joy to be around, and his happiness was contagious.

David enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He cherished family trips to Florida to visit Susan, relished time spent cheering on his beloved UK Wildcats, and loved being outdoors—whether fishing with Jacob, coaching his grandchildren, mowing the grass, or enjoying a round of golf when he was able. A bit of a homebody at heart, he found contentment in the quiet moments as much as the adventurous ones.

David Neal Carlisle leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and unwavering support. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Harold D. Carlisle and Mildred Carlisle Livers; stepfather, James Livers; 5 siblings, Paul Thomas, Mike Thomas, Jimmy Thomas, Betty Saltman, and Dottie Townsend; and a grandchild, Madison Miller.

Left to cherish his memory, David is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Gail Carlisle; 2 daughters, Michele Carlisle and Susan Carlisle; 4 grandchildren, Summer Stull, Jacob Stull, Kinslee Miller, and Brittany Elfalan; 1 great-grandchild, Journee Wilson; 4 siblings, Harold D. Carlisle (Terri), Marcy Simmon, Norma Priddy (Mike), and Carrie Jefferies (Charles); and a host of extended family and close friends.
