Doris Mae Barker

April 14, 1933 — January 9, 2026

Louisville, Kentucky

Doris Mae Barker, 92, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, with her family at her side.

Doris was born on April 14, 1933, during the Great Depression, in Louisville, Kentucky, to William J. Schooley and Sylvia M. Schooley. She was a proud 1951 graduate of Shawnee High School and was part of the last group of girls to graduate from the school, a distinction she always carried with pride.

Doris was deeply family-oriented and cherished time spent with her loved ones. Holidays and birthdays were especially meaningful to her, as she delighted in having everyone together, filling the room with laughter, love, and memories. She always had a good joke to share.

Doris enjoyed reading, dancing, and listening to her favorite music, especially Michael Bublé and Frank Sinatra. She found joy in simple pleasures, including watching game shows—particularly America Says, and working on crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed sharing memories of Fountain Ferry Park, formerly located in western Louisville at the Ohio River. Whatever she was doing, Doris approached life with humor, warmth, and a genuine enjoyment of the moment.

Doris Mae Barker will be remembered for her quick wit, loving heart, and the joy she brought to those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, family devotion, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, William J. Schooley and Sylvia M. (Greenwell) Schooley; brothers, William “Billy” Schooley and Ray Schooley.

Left to cherish her memory, Doris is survived by her children, Kim Barker, Craig Barker, and Michele Jacobus (Jason); grandson, Lindsay Barker; sister, Carol Adams (Bruce); and several nieces and nephews.
