Dortha Eva Brockman

August 24, 1924 — May 8, 2026

Louisville

Dortha Eva Brockman, 101, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born on August 24, 1924, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, Dortha was the beloved daughter of William and Monia Newton. She lived a long and full life centered around the people she loved most — her family. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she treasured every memory made with her children, grandchildren, and the many generations that followed.

Dortha was known for her strong will, feisty spirit, and independent nature. She never shied away from taking chances and lived life on her own terms. She also had a touch of elegance about her — always dressed to the nines with her hair styled, nails polished, and makeup perfectly done. No matter the occasion, Dortha believed in looking her best.

She was an exceptional cook who found great joy in preparing holiday meals for the family and hosting cherished Sunday night dinners over the years. Her kitchen and table were places where laughter was shared, stories were told, and lasting memories were made.

In her spare time, Dortha loved spending time with all the babies in the family, relaxing on the front porch with her favorite iced tea and lemon, tending to her garden and flower beds, and watching her favorite television shows, including Wheel of Fortune, Let’s Make a Deal, and Hee-Haw.

Dortha’s presence, love, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but the memories she created will live on in the hearts of her family forever.

Dortha is preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Roscoe Raymond Brockman; parents, William and Monia Newton; siblings, Della Bright, Sylvia Smith, Oscar Newton, Gilbert Newton, Corban Newton, Evelyn Moore, Burt Newton, Delbert Newton, and Ronnie Newton; son, Jerry Brockman; daughter, Patsy Rice; grandson, Troy Hayes; daughter-in-law, Elsie Brockman; and son-in-law, Ronald Rice.

Left to cherish her memory, Dortha is survived by her loving daughter, Judy Hayes; grandchildren, Corey Rice (Amy), Lori Tyra (Vince), and Dorrie Roby; great-grandchildren, Spencer Watson, Olivia Watson, Audrey Watson, Julianne Hayes, Cody Hayes, Chandler Roby, Kaden Knapke, Kennedy Rice, and Lincoln Rice; great-great-grandchildren, Adalynn Mayfield, Kenton Mayfield, Lynn Hayes, and Troy Hayes.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt and special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Parkwood Health and Rehabilitation for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Dortha during her time there.
