Edith Joyce Jones

Jul 27, 1938 — Jun 21, 2026

Louisville, Kentucky

Edith "Joyce" Jones, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born on July 27, 1938, in Manchester, Kentucky, Joyce lived a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and service to others. She was a longtime and devoted member of Cloverleaf Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for many years. Whether nurturing children in the church nursery or helping prepare meals in the kitchen, Joyce dedicated countless hours to caring for others and supporting her church family. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she served with a joyful and willing heart.

Joyce was known for her outgoing personality and never met a stranger. Blessed with the gift of gab, she could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like an old friend. She genuinely loved people and would give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. Her kindness, generosity, and warm spirit touched countless lives.

She also had a wonderful sense of humor and was rarely seen without a smile. Her laughter was contagious, and she had a special way of bringing joy to those around her. Joyce was truly one of a kind—a remarkable woman whose presence could light up any room. As many would say, they simply do not make them like her anymore.

In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed watching basketball, tending to her flower garden, and traveling to Florida, where she loved spending time at the beach. These simple pleasures brought her happiness and created many treasured memories throughout the years.

Joyce loved cooking and baking, finding it to be another meaningful way to care for those she loved. Whether it was her famous Apple Cake or any of the other cakes, cookies, fudge, and turnovers she was known for making, each treat was prepared with love. Family, friends, and church members alike looked forward to enjoying her homemade creations, which reflected the warmth and generosity that defined her life.

Left to cherish her memory, Joyce is survived by her devoted lifetime special friend, Tommy Woods; daughter, Natalie Woods; grandchildren, Rev. Nachia Tellis (Christopher), Raheem Lewis, and Destiny Oliver; great-grandchildren, Raylynn and Lyla; Rev. Geoffrey Lacefield and her church family at Cloverleaf Baptist Church; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of faith, kindness, laughter, and love for others will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
