Herbert C. Sample Jr.

Herbert “Jack” C. Sample Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born on January 24, 1944, in Louisville, Jack was the beloved son of Herbert and Ellen Sample. He proudly served his country as an airplane mechanic in the United States Navy, completing three tours in Vietnam. Following his military service, Jack continued his career as a dedicated employee at GE for 31 years, where he worked for many years before retiring.

Upon retirement, Jack found his greatest pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and family. His three grandsons were truly the light of his life—fondly known to him as “The Boys.” He cherished every moment with them, whether sharing a laugh, teaching them something new, or simply enjoying their company.

Jack was known for his quick wit and the ability to bring a smile to those around him. A true craftsman at heart, he loved spending time in his garage, tinkering with engines and fixing anything that needed repair. When he wasn’t in the garage, he could often be found tending to his garden, taking pride in the simple pleasures of home and hard work.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert C. Sample Sr. and Ellen Callahan Sample; 4 siblings, Charles Sample, Donnie Sample, Gary Sample, and Doug Sample; brother-in-law, Johnny Davison; and a sister-in-law, Ada Sample.

Left to cherish his memory, Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Inge Grove Sample; daughter, Missy Kaiser; son-in-law, Troy Kaiser; 3 grandsons, Gavin Watkins, Trevor Kaiser, and Aiden Kaiser; 3 siblings, Sue Davison, Larry Sample (Judy), and Ritchie Sample (Rose); and a host of nieces & nephews, and friends.

A funeral service for Mr. Jack Sample Jr. will be held at 12 PM on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 1 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home; and prior to the funeral service from 11 AM to 12 PM. Entombment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
