James L. Byrd, 90, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Trinity, Florida. He was born on December 8, 1935, to Jesse James Byrd and Burnette Ann Byrd in Hiseville, Kentucky.

Jim never met a stranger. He was a kind, funny, and loving man whose warmth and generosity touched everyone he met. Jim truly enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends and was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.

Jim cherished his Florida life for the last 34 years and was blessed with many lifelong friendships there. A devoted Kentucky Wildcats fan, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. Known for his strong work ethic and remarkable skills as a handyman, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later retired after a career as a semi-truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frankie PoynterByrd; sons, Danny and Daryl; and his siblings.

Left to cherish his memory, Jim is survived by his loving daughters, Debbie Wilkirson (Greg Wilkirson) and Shonni Thixton (Daniel Ryan); cherished granddaughters, Jamie Fiedler and Miranda Thixton; 4 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, laughter, and friendship.

Jim’s legacy of love, hard work, generosity, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
