James “Tommie” Herbert Wilson, 93, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026.
Tommie was born on October 21, 1932, in Brownsville, Kentucky, to Hershel and Mary Nealie Wilson. From an early age, Tommie carried a strong sense of duty and pride. As soon as he was able, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country honorably, including during the Korean War.
Following his military service, Tommie built a long and dedicated career as a machine operator at General Electric. Known for his work ethic and reliability, he earned the respect of his coworkers and friends alike.
Tommie was a deeply social man who never met a stranger. He loved staying connected with family and friends, often spending hours on the phone sharing stories, laughter, and conversation. He had an unforgettable sense of humor—so infectious that he would sometimes start laughing before he could even finish telling the joke. His joy brought smiles to everyone around him.
He was an active and cherished member of his local VFW Post, where he especially enjoyed playing cards, shuffle board, and singing karaoke. Whether it was a Johnny Cash classic or a Willie Nelson tune, Tommie sang with heart and enthusiasm, often to the delight of those around him.
Tommie shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Doris, whom he loved deeply until her passing. Together, they embraced life to the fullest—visiting family in the country, going dancing, attending parties, enjoying movies, and making trips to the casino. Their love was evident in every moment they spent together.
As his family grew, Tommie’s greatest joy became the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Sundays were sacred, the family would gather to share meals, watch sports, and simply enjoy being together. These moments meant everything to him.
Tommie was an avid sports fan, proudly cheering on the University of Louisville and following Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, game shows, and classic westerns like Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Music was always part of his life, with a special love for country and smooth jazz.
In his spare time, Tommie could often be found fishing, watching horse races, or trying his luck at the slot machines. He lived life with enthusiasm, humor, and a deep appreciation for the people he loved.
Tommie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Doris Wilson; parents, Hershel Wilson and Mary Nealie Beckner Wilson; 8 siblings, Alta, Louise, Nadine, Leon, Darleen, Charlie, Betty, and Jean.
Left to cherish his memory, Tommie is survived by his children, Belinda Yff (David), Greg Wilson, and Brian Wilson; grandchildren, Eric Yff, Timothy Yff, Amanda Yff, and Andrew Yff; great-grandchildren, Brayden Bishop, Jaxson Bishop, and Cecilia Yff; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends.
Tommie will be remembered for his laughter, his stories, his unwavering love for his family, and the joy he brought into every room he entered. His presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
