Janet H. Harris, 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
She was born on February 3, 1947, in Boston, Kentucky, to Walter “Duke” and Mamie Strader. Janet was a devoted wife, mother, and friend who cherished every moment spent with her family. She was the best spouse she could be—selfless, kind, and always willing to do anything for those she loved.
Janet had a true gift for nurturing both people and plants. She found joy in tending to her garden, where she lovingly grew tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, and broccoli—a skill she learned from her parents and perfected alongside her husband, George. She especially enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor, turning her harvest into memories to share with family and friends.
Those who knew Janet will remember her as both a fighter and a giver—someone who often gave more than she received and who could always find the silver lining in any situation. She had a way of inspiring those around her, encouraging them to be their best selves.
In her spare time, Janet loved to travel to some of her favorite destinations, including Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Ft. Myers, and Myrtle Beach. At home, she enjoyed relaxing with George while watching her favorite Westerns, Hallmark movies, and FBI shows.
Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lee “Duke” Strader and Mamie Sidebottom Strader; brother, Russell Lee Strader; and her beloved cat, Oliver.
Left to cherish her memory, Janet is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, George Harris; daughter, Kimberly Harris; nephews, Mike McKinley, Mark McKinley, and Todd Harris; and a host of close friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Janet Harris will be held at 2 PM on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 1 PM to 7 PM; and 12 PM to 2 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
