Leona Bartlett Remines

August 8, 1932 — February 3, 2026

Louisville, Kentucky

Leona B. Remines, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Leona was born on August 8, 1932, in Magnolia, Kentucky, to Joe and Lula Gibson. She lived a long life marked by hard work, deep love for her family, and a generous heart.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, roles she cherished above all else. Leona never met a stranger and was known for being outspoken and unapologetically herself—qualities that endeared her to many and made her unforgettable. She had a caring nature and was always willing to help someone in need, often opening her home and sharing a spare bedroom with family members during difficult times.

Leona was employed by Philip Morris and later became a familiar and beloved face as a server at Jerry’s Restaurant on Dixie Highway, where she proudly worked for over 25 years. Her strong work ethic and friendly personality left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.

She treasured summers spent with her grandchildren, finding great joy in taking them on long road trips and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Athletic in her younger years, Leona excelled at softball and bowling. In her spare time, she loved cheering on her UK Wildcats, gardening and canning, playing Rook and Aggravation, and keeping her home neat and welcoming. Leona also loved traveling, especially trips to New York and Ocean City, destinations that brought her great joy and many fond memories.

Leona B. Remines will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion to family will live on in the many lives she touched.

Leona is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Charlie Remines; son, Joseph Troy Remines; 5 sisters; 2 brothers; and her parents, Joe Gibson and Lula Buckner Gibson.

Left to cherish her memory, Leona is survived by her 4 children, Fred Remines (Denise), Lisa Duke (Mark), Brent Remines (Pam), and Kendall Remines (Renee); daughter-in-law, Michelle Remines; 12 grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew, Heidi, Erika, Krissy, Adam, Jake, Hayley, Katie, Heather, Joseph, and Patrick; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces/nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends.
