He was a retired bus driver for the Louisville Transit Company and was a Baptist by faith.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Lilly and Cornelia; and daughter, Corrine Burkhead.
He is survived by his sons, Carl (Janice) and Chester (Bonnie) Cox; stepchildren, Bernadine Akridge, Doris Thomason and Harry Thomason; son-in-law, Bill Burkhead; brother, Arvin R. Cox; sisters, Cleona Davis and Gracie Cox; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
His service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens, West. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
