Mary Margaret Spencer

Mary “Margaret” Spencer, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana.

Margaret was born on December 6, 1942, in Fairdale, Kentucky, to James and Virginia Mitchell. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose presence brought warmth and comfort to all who knew her.

Margaret had a laid-back spirit and found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She shared a special bond with her sister and best friend, Patsy, and treasured the many moments they spent together. Margaret also cherished her trips out west with her son Greg, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Family meant everything to Margaret. When she wasn’t surrounded by loved ones, she enjoyed perfecting her crochet skills, reading a good book, and watching her favorite soap operas, The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives.

Margaret will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Her kindness, gentle nature, and unwavering love for her family will remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, James Mitchell and Virginia Kuhn Mitchell.

Left to cherish her memory, Margaret is survived by her 3 children, Joe Hasselwander (Terry), Greg Spencer (Kim), and Laura Callender; best friend and sister, Patsy Wilkerson; longtime partner, Ron Holbert; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces/nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends.

A funeral service for Ms. Margaret Spencer will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 1 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Entombment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
