Michael Douglas Krider

Louisville

Michael Douglas Krider, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on August 2, 1947, in Louisville to Frank and Helen Krider.

Mike was a kind-hearted man who found joy in the simple things in life and never met a stranger. As a young man, he married the love of his life, Elaine, at Saint Helen’s Catholic Church in Louisville. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and memories — including a yard with three enormous trees that kept Mike busy every fall, spending entire weekends happily raking leaves.

Mike had a deep love for animals, especially his dogs. He faithfully walked them two or three times a day, and whenever he came across a stray dog, he would go door to door trying to reunite it with its owner. His compassion for others extended beyond animals as well. Mike often cut grass for neighbors and people in need around his neighborhood, never accepting payment and always willing to lend a helping hand.

He enjoyed watching sports on television and especially loved old western shows. Mike also loved conversation and could strike up a talk with anyone willing to listen. He lived a simple and honest life, never smoking and rarely drinking alcohol — though he occasionally enjoyed an Old Fashioned, seldom finishing it.

Most of all, Mike will be remembered as a good friend, a caring neighbor, and a genuinely good man whose kindness touched many lives. His warmth, generosity, and everyday acts of goodness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mike is preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine Mattingly Krider; 2 sisters, Linda Krider and Mary Rebecca Krider; and his parents, Frank Krider and Helen Maples Krider.

Left to cherish his memory, Michael is survived by 4 siblings, Sandra Krider, Carol Krider, Pam Krider Swan (Paul), and Richard Krider (Bonnie); 3 nieces; and longtime friend and caregiver, Gregory Corbett (Holly).
