Mildred Elaine Williams, 89, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, in Lanesville, Indiana.
Born on April 13, 1937, in Louisville, Kentucky, Mildred was the beloved daughter of Marvin and Mildred Cook. Throughout her life, she exemplified strength, independence, and unwavering love for her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and cherished friend whose greatest joy came from the people she loved.
Family was the center of Mildred's world. She was immensely proud to witness five generations of her family and treasured every role she held within it. She found happiness in bringing everyone together, especially during the holidays, when her home was filled with the aromas of home-cooked meals, laughter, and love. She had a remarkable gift for making every gathering feel special and creating memories that her family will cherish for years to come.
One of Mildred's favorite traditions was celebrating her birthday, which she happily shared with her great-grandson, Hunter, and her niece, Kim. She always considered that unique family connection to be a special blessing.
Mildred loved to travel, especially when it meant spending time with family. She looked forward to family reunions in Georgia, Nevada, and Indiana and treasured the many memories made at the family's camp at Rough River, where generations gathered to relax, laugh, and enjoy one another's company.
A talented and creative woman, Mildred had a lifelong passion for quilting, crocheting, and cross stitching. She lovingly created countless handmade quilts for her family, each stitched with care and affection. Some of her favorite moments were spent quilting alongside her children, passing down both her skills and her love through every stitch.
Known for her strength and self-reliance, Mildred was fiercely independent and took great pride in caring for herself and those she loved. She approached life with determination, grace, and resilience, rarely asking for help and always finding a way to accomplish whatever needed to be done.
In her quieter moments, Mildred found joy in dancing and listening to country music—simple pleasures that brought a smile to her face and reflected her warm, spirited nature.
While her family mourns the loss of an extraordinary woman, they also celebrate a life filled with love, devotion, kindness, and countless treasured memories. Mildred's legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured, the traditions she created, and the unconditional love she gave so freely.
Mildred is preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Oscar R. Williams; daughter, Patricia Ann Wills; Grandson, Jeremy Pate; siblings, Marvin Frank Cook Jr., Marilyn Jean Johnson (Coney), Vera Buchanan, and Ruth Fieger (Frank); and parents, Marvin Frank Cook Sr. and Mildred Eunice Leibrock Cook.
