Alene Elizabeth Bray

July 21, 1936 — July 21, 2025

Louisville, Kentucky

Alene Elizabeth Bray, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, on the day of her 89th birthday. Born on July 21, 1936, in Haysi, Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of Jack and Bertha Mullins.

Alene was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was defined by her love, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family. A committed mother, she worked tirelessly—often juggling multiple jobs—to ensure her sons had every opportunity to succeed, including access to the best education possible. She was also a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Strong-willed, hardworking, and sometimes a little stubborn, Alene’s determination was matched only by her warmth and kindness. Her outgoing personality made her a friend to all—she never met a stranger and had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved.

Known for her sense of humor and infectious spirit, Alene was never shy about speaking her mind or making you laugh, sometimes resulting in your embarrassment. She was lively and full of energy, finding joy in dancing, cooking, and tending to her beloved vegetable garden. She also loved traveling to her high school reunions, visiting the Grand Ole Opry with her dear companion Charles, and hosting memorable holiday gatherings for her family.

Alene touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but the memories she created will live on in the hearts of those she loved.

Alene is preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Charles Bray; parents, Jack Mullins and Bertha Hill Mullins; son, Glenn Bray; and 4 siblings, Clayton Mullins, Walter Mullins, Cathy Wright, and Pauline Pusser.

Left to cherish her memory, Alene is survived by her 2 sons, Sean Brown (Melissa) and John “Jay” Brown; 5 grandchildren, Reilly, Taylor, Erin, Cassie, and Cara; 6 great-grandchildren, August, Clara, Isabella, Kinslee, Bentley, and Caroline; brother, Griffin Mullins (Phyllis); sister-in-law, Karen Mullins; and a host of extended family and close friends.
