Barbara Alice Russell Smith was born February 28, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky to Annie Laurie Brown and Eugene Russell. She is preceded in death by her parents, who provided the love, nurture and guidance she needed to become a devoted and loving parent. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Trinity A.M.E. Church. She was a devoted wife and mother and a faithful servant in helping to carry on the work of the church and spreading the Gospel of Christ.

She graduated from the famous Central High School in 1950. She went on to obtain her Bachelor's degree from Spalding University School of Nursing. She later went on to work in several medical institutions; General Hospital and Jewish Hospital. She worked for E.I. Dupont as a Research Chemical Technician and retired after serving 23 years. She did not remain retired for long. In March of 1998, she formed Heavenly Honey, custom gift boxes and gift baskets filled with honey, banana bread, chow-chow, jellies and LOVE that would surprise and delight everyone.

She was affectionately called Mother Dear by her family. She enjoyed traveling, going to the casino and being with her dear family and friends. She was a strong foundation and true Matriarch. She was actively involved in her church for a number of years, participating in various ministries and activities that supported both spiritual growth and service. Barbara was actively involved in participating in Central High School events and engaging with fellow alumni. She provided common ground and safe spaces for her family. We honor her calmness, her endless patience and love. Her steady guidance and wisdom will continue to be the foundation for which we build our lives.
