Betty Lee Cook, a beloved momma, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. She was 83 years old.
Betty was born on July 24, 1941, to George Washington Quire and Nannie Mae Pack Quire. Known affectionately by those closest to her as a feisty and stubborn little woman, Betty had a heart as big as her personality. Her strength and tenacity were matched only by her fierce devotion to her family, especially her cherished grandbabies—and even her grandbaby Susie, her beloved cat.
Betty was a natural caregiver who spent much of her life tending to those she loved. She worked tirelessly and selflessly, never shying away from hard work. Her home was a sanctuary not only of warmth but also of laughter, love, and the occasional feisty attitude.
When she wasn't caring for others, Betty found peace in the simple joys of life. She loved spending time at the cabin by the lake, where she could often be found sitting on the dock, watching the fish swim lazily beneath the surface. Feeding the squirrels and birds brought her happiness, and traveling to the ocean was always a thrill—especially the time she saw sharks right from the beach.
A woman of many joys, Betty was happiest when watching her favorite shows—Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Golden Girls—with the thermostat turned up to a cozy 80 degrees or more. Pizza, loaded with all the good stuff (except anchovies!), was her favorite treat.
Betty’s legacy is one of unwavering love, resilience, and a stubborn spirit that never wavered. She will be missed dearly by all those who had the chance to know and meet her.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Dan Cook; parents, George and Nannie Quire; grandson, Danny Ernspiker; and many siblings.
Left to cherish her memory, Betty is survived by her 5 children, Joyce Mills, Lula Miller, Bill Wilkins (Shirley), Linda Strange (Doug), and Marie Strange (Steve); 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; beloved cat, Susie; and a host of extended family and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. A funeral service will be held for Mrs. Betty Cook at 1:00 PM on June 3, 2025, with visitation from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service.
