Joseph Lynn Mackin, 77, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025. Born on December 24, 1947, to the late Bud and Ann Mackin, Lynn lived a life marked by love, resilience, and deep commitment to his family and community.
A proud graduate of Flaget High School, Lynn went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service extended beyond the military—he was a proud and sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 50 years, providing support and inspiration to countless individuals over the decades.
Lynn had a lifelong passion for golf and bowling, and he was well known for his love of horses—both training them and placing the occasional bet at the track. His humor, kindness, and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving son Darren Mackin, grandson Hunter Mackin (Ashley), granddaughter McKay Wynn (Derek Byrne), and his beloved great-granddaughter Lydia Byrne. He is also survived by his twin sister Linda Stringfield (Lewie), who shared an unbreakable bond with him throughout life.
Lynn is preceded in death by his son Paul Eric Mackin, his brother Norman Mackin, and sister Sharon Mackin.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. to celebrate Lynn's life and legacy.
In honoring Lynn, may we remember a man who lived with purpose, gave generously, and left behind a legacy of love, strength, and perseverance.
