Lawrence S. Witt

Lawrence S. Witt, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on August 13, 1939, in Boone, Kentucky, to John and Minerva Witt.

Lawrence was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose love for his family was unwavering. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country with dedication and honor. A devout Christian, Lawrence’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life.

Known for his great sense of humor and adventurous spirit, Lawrence loved to travel, particularly to places that held special memories for him. Whether it was enjoying the sunny beaches of Florida, marveling at the beauty of Niagara Falls, or following his beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats to their games, Lawrence found joy in exploring the world around him.

In his spare time, Lawrence could often be found casting a line while fishing, passionately supporting his Wildcats, or enjoying the music of his favorite country artists, especially George Jones. His love of simple pleasures and zest for life were evident in everything he did.

Lawrence’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene T. Witt; father, John Witt; mother, Minerva York White; and a sister, Phyllis Phipps.

Left to cherish his memory, Lawrence is survived by 2 sons, Michael Witt, and David Witt (Laura); step-daughter, Sandy Chambers of Atlanta, GA; 6 grandchildren, Adam Witt (Reagan), Abby Witt, Natalie Zeller (Chris), Ashley Hickman (Rob), Benjamin Witt (Haley), and Jonathan Witt; 8 great-grandchildren, Kaleb Burch, Mia Hickman, Hunter Zeller, Zachary Zeller, Zoey Hickman, Ezekiel Witt, Ellianna Witt, and Eliza Witt; and a host of extended family and close friends.

A funeral service for Mr. Lawrence Witt will be held at 10 AM on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home West, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2024, from 3 PM to 7 PM, and prior to the funeral service from 9 AM to 10 AM, at the funeral home. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
