Leslie Warren Howard

August 29, 1951 — April 4, 2025

New Albany, IN

Leslie W. Howard, 73, passed away peacefully, after receiving amazing care at the Hildegard House, on Friday, April 4, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 29, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Calloway and Margie Howard, Les lived a life full of love, generosity, and a deep devotion to his family and friends.

A dedicated husband, father, papaw, brother, uncle, and friend, Les was the cornerstone of his family. He lived for the joy of spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. Les had a unique ability to be both laid-back and social, and he never met a stranger. His warm heart and kind nature made him a great listener, always offering a comforting ear without judgment. He cherished life and approached every day with a smile.

Les’s life took a transformative turn after he received a liver transplant, which led him to become deeply involved in supporting others in similar situations. As a 30 year transplant survivor, he was passionate about the Transplant Olympics and K.O.D.A. (Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates), where he was an advocate for organ donation and the power of second chances.

In his spare time, Les enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He was an avid fan of his beloved IU Hoosiers, cheering on his team with fervor. Golf was another favorite pastime, and he spent many hours on the course enjoying the game he loved. Music also played an important role in his life, as Les was a talented drummer who played in several bands over the years. He found peace and happiness in traveling to the beach to gaze at the ocean, a place that brought him tranquility.

Les also loved spending time with friends and family playing lively games of poker and euchre, sharing laughter and good times with those closest to him.

Les will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, love for life, and unwavering support for others will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Les is preceded in death by his parents, Calloway and Margie Howard.

Left to cherish his memory, Les is survived by his loving wife of 40+ years, Dorothy Howard; 2 children, Pam Boswell (Greg) and Tim Burton (Jennifer); 3 grandchildren, Heather Burton, Brittany Green, and Cali Broy; 2 great-grandchildren, Khloe Ward and Alec Davis; 2 siblings, James “Jim” Howard (Carol) and Nancy Howard (Kathy); and a host of extended family and close friends.
