Mathilda June Witt, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at her home in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on October 23, 1942, in Central City, Kentucky, to Paul and Virginia Carter. June was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and joy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
She attended Ninth and O Baptist Church, June’s life was rooted in her unwavering faith. She loved to sing, both in the church choir and as a solo performer. Her voice brought comfort and inspiration to those around her, and she often traveled with a trio to share her passion for country and gospel music with others.
June’s zest for life was evident in her many adventures. She enjoyed traveling to beautiful destinations like Alaska, Florida, New Hampshire, and the western United States. She also had a love for nature and enjoyed activities such as gardening, fishing, and four-wheeling with her longtime companion, Jerry. Whether she was on the water or spending time in the great outdoors, June found peace and joy in these simple pleasures. Her fondness for blueberries was well-known, and her enthusiasm for life was infectious.
In addition to her musical talents and adventurous spirit, June had a great appreciation for bowling and cherished time spent with family and friends. Her kindness, generosity, and infectious laughter will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
June’s life was a testament to love, faith, and the joy of living fully. She will be missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
June is preceded in death by her parents, Paul D. Curtis, and Virginia Mae Carter; 2 brothers, Kenneth Curtis, and Paul “Dewey” Curtis; and longtime companion, Jerry Gray.
Left to cherish her memory, June is survived by 2 sons, Michael Witt, and David Witt (Laura); 6 grandchildren, Adam Witt (Reagan), Abby Witt, Natalie Zeller (Chris), Ashley Hickman (Rob), Benjamin Witt (Haley), and Jonathan Witt; 8 great-grandchildren, Kaleb Burch, Mia Hickman, Hunter Zeller, Zachary Zeller, Zoey Hickman, Ezekiel Witt, Ellianna Witt, and Eliza Witt; brother, Charles “Butch” Curtis (Leigh); and a host of extended family and close friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.
A funeral service for Mrs. June Witt will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home West, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2024, from 3 PM to 7 PM, and prior to the funeral service from 10 AM to 11 AM, at the funeral home. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
