Obie Roger Broughton

August 22, 1951 — June 18, 2025

Louisville, Kentucky

Obie "Roger" Broughton, age 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born on August 22, 1951, in Pineville, Kentucky, Roger was the beloved son of William and Marie Broughton. A man of quiet strength and unwavering integrity, he was known for being soft-spoken, humble, and always true to his word. He was a steady presence—reserved by nature, but ever ready with thoughtful advice and a listening ear.

Roger built his career as an accountant, bringing precision and dependability to everything he did. But more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who cherished time spent with his family above all else.

He had a lifelong love of sports, beginning back in high school managing the basketball team, then cheering for his favorite college teams—the UofL Cardinals, UK Wildcats, and Indiana Hoosiers—as well as professional teams like the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Indianapolis Colts, Boston Celtics, and Atlanta Falcons. His impressive hat collection was a testament to his passion, with caps representing nearly every team he followed.

Roger found joy in the simple things: classic rock music, dancing with his beloved Joyce to Elvis Presley, kicking back with an old western movie, or a good backyard barbeque. He loved playing mini golf, rooting for Jeff Gordon during NASCAR races, or dozing off to a quiet afternoon of golf on TV. Whether spending time with family or savoring a peaceful moment on the couch, where you could probably find him enjoying a sweet treat or a piece of chocolate, Roger lived life with a gentle grace that left a lasting impression on those around him.

He will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the love he gave—quiet, steady, and unconditional. Roger's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, William Martin Broughton and Marie Gregory Broughton.

Left to cherish his memory, Roger is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Joyce Broughton; 4 children, Carter Broughton (Roxana), William Broughton (Briceli), Chris Homer (Paul), and Erin James (Derrick); 6 grandchildren, Pablo Llavona, Christine Homer, Katherine Homer, Emma Ross, Nathaniel James, and Charlotte James; 5 siblings, Annette Hobson (Ted), Melanie Broughton, Noel Broughton, David Broughton, and Bill Broughton (Tonya); many nieces/nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends.
