Oral Scott

June 9, 1936 — June 26, 2024

Oral Thomas “Tommy” Scott, 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on June 26, 2024. He was born to Iola (nee Browning) and Lacy Scott of Cecelia, Kentucky, on June 9, 1936. He was one of five children. Tommy graduated from Lynnvale High School in White Mills, Kentucky, where he also played basketball. He served in the United States Air Force Tactical Air Command during the Korean War period, and once again during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Tommy was raised on a farm in Cecelia by God fearing parents who taught hard work and family commitment. He attended and was baptized as a young boy at Franklin Crossroads Baptist Church in Cecelia.

Tommy worked at Standard Gravure as a rotogravure photo engraver that printed the weekly The Courier Journal until retirement. He then worked in security at the Louisville International Airport. He loved gardening and being outside, and in more recent years loved mowing his neighbor’s lawns. Tommy loved to fish and was a competitive bass fisherman. He was passionate about University of Louisville sports, and was a long term season ticket holder, most recently women’s basketball that he enjoyed watching with his daughter, Robin.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Lacy Scott; his mother, Iola Scott; sisters; Oletta Kellogg, Nadene Beck, and Elsie Barnes; and his brother Edward Glenn Scott.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Edith Scott, who he loved and cherished (and who has now also left her earthly home); his children, Robin Scott (Dennis Wierzbicki), Gerald “Scott” Scott and Vonda Scott Motsinger. He also leaves behind grandchildren: Jonathan Price, Nathan Scott, Lacie and Paul Motsinger, Terry and Brad Spine, and Nicholas Bass; 6 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-love, Patsy; many nieces and nephews; special neighbors and friends: Michelle, Rosemary, Kay and John; and step-daughters Brenda and Beverly.

Tommy was interred at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, Kentucky, where he received Military Honors.
