Shirley Jean Vittitow Grismer Nichols, 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024. She was born on June 12, 1935, to the late Fred and Mary (Cottrell) Vittitow, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Shirley grew up playing fast pitch softball in high school and made many memories with her family playing as well. Shirley retired from Old Methodist Evangelical and Norton Hospital where she established the Endoscopy Department with the assistance of her beloved friends and coworkers, this pioneering achievement is her lasting legacy. She loved to travel and working in her yard, but most of all she loved her family. Shirley was a most involved grandmother and enjoyed supporting her grandchildren in everything they did. She was a very fun loving person and enjoyed getting out and spending time doing things with her friends and family. A kind heart and giving spirit is what made Shirley stand out. Shirley will be missed by all that knew her.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Emmett Grismer; her daughter, Connie Lee; and her infant son, Richard.
Left to cherish the memories of Shirley's life is her loving husband, George Nichols; her sons, Terry Grismer, Dennis Grismer (Debbie), and Robert Grismer; her stepsons, Steven Nichols (Pam) and George T. Nichols; her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her lifelong friends, Mary Frances Decker and Ted Bogart (Emily); along with her very special friend, Connie Jordan.
A funeral service to honor Shirley's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Homes West, 4400 Dixie Highway. Friends may call on the family on Sunday from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
