Simpson "Pete" Eugene Denney

July 28, 1967 — March 11, 2025

Louisville, KY

Simpson “Pete” Eugene Denney left his earthly home on March 11, 2025, after a sudden illness. His close friend of 25 years, Gail Cunningham, was by his side when he passed. Pete was preceded in death by his mother, Janice P. Lawrence, his father, James “Jim” M. Denney, and his son, Mason T. Prott. He leaves behind his bonus son, Timothy J. McGregor (Michelle), his son Matthew A. Prott, his daughter, Felicia C. Denney, his grandson, Xavier Mason Alexander Brown, his best friends of over 40 years, Harold Almon, Mark Fleshman and Tina Lomax, and his brothers, Wayne Lewis, Andy Eldridge, and James Ray. He took the “McGregor Kill Zone” down years ago and shared a mutual love for his McGregor family of over 34 years, including his sisters Shanna R. McGregor (Patrick), Glenna J. McGregor, Linda Hightower, and Diane Thornhill, and the mother of his children, Julie M. McGregor, who shared countless birthday parties and vacations with Pete. The love story between Ed and Regina McGregor was one of his favorites, and he shared many great memories with Cheryl Price (Scott) and Chuck Campbell (Tiffany). Pete also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as his fur baby, Lady.

Pete was a US Army veteran, having joined the service right after high school. After his Army stint, he decided to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and obtain his CDL. After a few years with River City Distributing delivering everyone’s favorite Miller beers, he became a double-feeder driver for UPS, where he worked for 25 years. Pete was looking forward to retirement and spending more time with those he loved and vacationing to concert venues. He was a proud Teamster and loved his UPS family.

Pete worked hard and he played hard. In addition to his love of family and friends, Pete was a great lover of music, concerts, enjoyed his Cobra and car shows, as well as many family gatherings, including holidays and countless BBQ swim parties at his home, where he would insist the boys run the grill. He was a huge Louisville Cardinals fan and had season tickets to many games, which he always shared with those he loved.

Pete was in love with his grandson “Xay” and as Xay will tell you, “He’s the BEST Papa D in the whole world!” He was such a rock to his kids and bonus kids, always showing love at all costs. Pete was very proud of the adults and parents they all became, especially his daughter Felicia. For those who didn’t know, Pete was very charitable. He donated and participated in many classic car runs, fundraisers and charities including Toys for Tots, which he discovered he preferred much more than the short lived “Simpson’s Stripper Rescue & Rehab Resort”.

If you’ve ever been in his house, you would think Pete was a master procrastinator. However, he was actually either working or busy posting totally inappropriate memes, planning his next party or checking Ticketmaster for his next concert. He never met a stranger along the way.
