Ms. Tiajuana Kaye Simmons of New Albany, Indiana, passed peacefully to her heavenly home Sunday afternoon, January 12, 2025, at Baptist Health Floyd surrounded by close family after a recent illness. She was born on October 16, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late William H. Simmons, Jr. and Florence Williams Simmons. She cherished her time spent with family, especially with her beloved granddaughters.
Tiajuana was a member of Centennial Olivet Baptist Church where she remained active until her passing. Her passions were teaching and music. She taught Children’s church in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She directed the Starlight Band where she taught music, including bell ringing and she was a member of the Mass Choir.
Tiajuana graduated from Central High School in Louisville, and later graduated with a major in Education from Knoxville College in Tennessee.
Tiajuana loved to be in the classroom inspiring young minds. She retired from Floyd County HeadStart as a Lead Teacher where she also enjoyed the role as a bus driver transporting her students safely.
Tiajuana is preceded in death by her brothers Rev. William H. Simmons III and Ricky Simmons. Left to treasure her memory, she is survived by her son, Kelvin Simmons; her grandchildren, Ja’Niece, Princess and Angel; siblings Ronald Simmons (Shirley), Yolanda Simmons; sisters-in-law, Sarah Simmons and Wilma Simmons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will continue to honor her legacy.
In honor of Tiajuana’s memory, the family kindly requests donations be made toward the future education of her three granddaughters.
A funeral service will be held for Ms. Tiajuana Simmons at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home West, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
