Tousey W. Newby

November 12, 1936 — June 29, 2025

Louisville, KY

Tousey William Newby, age 88, passed away on Sunday, 29 June 2025, from multiple medical complications. Tousey is survived by his best friend, Paula Layman of Mount Washington; stepson, David Schaad (Jan) of Pinedale, Wyoming; (and formerly Linda Kincaid Fiedler of Colorado Springs, Colorado); grandson, Michael Schaad (Helen) of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Jeremy Schaad (Mindy); and great-grandsons, Logan, Owen, and Nolan, all of Cheyenne, Wyoming; niece, Judy and her daughter, Angie Wardrip both of Louisville.

Tousey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nola Jean Garrison Newby to whom he was married from October 1964 until her passing in 2006; his beloved parents, “Annie” and Oscar Newby; his beloved sister, Shirley Newby; two of Nola’s sisters, Mildred and Deanie; and their mother, Mrs. Mae Garrison, whom Tousey lovingly remembered until his passing.

Tousey was raised in Okolona, Kentucky where he graduated from high school, and later graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. Tousey’s work life included the Marley Company in Louisville’s south end – where he and Nola met; Jeffersonville Boat Company in Jeffersonville, Indiana (his favorite job); and finally, retirement from the Ford Motor Company.

Tousey’s early life was spent going to school, working a farm with his dad, Oscar… enjoying horses and horse shows with best friend Vance Apple, and later “just keeping it between the lines” with best friend Jerry Nett. Tousey never met a stranger whether at a horse show/rodeo, on the lake or river, or at a dance. His greatest fun included runabout boating on the Ohio River and on Lake Cumberland near Somerset, Kentucky and dancing all over Louisville with Nola. Tousey and Nola also enjoyed traveling the state, visiting many of Kentucky’s State Parks but also included a bit of national and international travel to visit family.

Tousey had a number of favorite dance partners whom he “thrilled, twilled and whirled around, “…many a dance floor in Louisville…” – but he especially loved those at the Louisville Rat Racer’s Club on old 7th Street Road. He had two or three favorites, the closest of whom were Nola and later in life, Paula. Paula and Tousey were “partners in crime” and were quite close friends. They always managed to keep one another out of trouble…

At his time of death, Tousey was working on getting better physically, and becoming the best company he could for Paula and also, doting on his grandsons and great grandsons.

Tousey provided critical, complete, and loving end-of-life care to Nola, to his mother, sister; his Aunt Eula, and a number of close friends, and was a fine friend to many people throughout Louisville. He will be honored and remembered by many for his kindness, cheerfulness, positive attitude, and many acts of love and service.

Tousey’s body will be available for viewing on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home West, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky from 10 AM to 2 PM.
