Victoria Jean Hicks, 71, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on November 14, 1953, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, to Nathaniel Lay and Lula Wilson, Victoria lived a life marked by compassion, energy, and boundless love.
Victoria was truly one of a kind—outgoing, spirited, and full of life. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for connecting with everyone she encountered. Her warmth, kindness, and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She had a way of lighting up every room she entered and making those around her feel seen and loved.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Victoria’s heart beat strongest for her family. Her sons and grandbabies were her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. But her love didn’t stop at family; she was a true lover of people. She believed in helping anyone in need and lived by the principle that no act of kindness was ever too small.
Victoria dedicated part of her life to helping others heal, working at a rehabilitation center where she played a vital role in AA recovery and support. Her empathy and strength gave hope to many, and her unwavering belief in redemption inspired those she served.
Creativity flowed through everything Victoria did. She was artistic and imaginative, with a special talent for crafts and making beautiful, unique hats. She also had a passion for music—especially gospel and R&B—and loved to sing while cooking meals that brought family and friends together.
A woman of deep faith, Victoria began many mornings with devotionals, grounding herself in the Word. Her love for the Lord shaped how she lived—with joy, humility, and purpose. She was intelligent, stylish, and always on the move—sometimes a little too fast behind the wheel, especially when heading to the walking bridge, one of her favorite spots.
Victoria was vibrant, involved, and full of life until the very end. She brought joy, wisdom, and a whole lot of flair to everything she touched.
Victoria is preceded by her parents, Nathaniel Lay and Lula Wilson; and 1 sister, Charlotte Garrett.
Left to cherish her memory, Victoria is survived by her sons, Roshon Lay, Jerel Lay, and Phillip Wade (Sarah); grandchildren, Victoria, Kendall, Junior, Jayce, Brianna, Jaylon, Dior, and TeTe; many many great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles Wilson Jr. and Vallencia Hale; cousin, Viola Bagh; family friend, Romiltia Prince; and a host of extended family and close friends.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those blessed to have known her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
