Zack S. Dowell

Zack S. Dowell, 98, returned to his Heavenly Father on May 26, 2023. He was born in Irvington, Breckinridge County, KY, on January 1, 1925, to the late Warren R. and Elizabeth Dowell.

Zack was a WWII Veteran and served in the Army in the European Theater of Operations as a member of Company E, 101^st Infantry Regiment.   

After the Military, Zack had a successful career of over 30 years as an ingenious sheet metal fabricator with Naval Ordnance in Louisville, KY. 

Zack was one of 61 WWII Veterans to participate in the two-day “All WWII Veteran D-Day Honor Flight”, from Louisville, KY to Washington, DC in June 2018. Zack’s son, Allen Dowell, attended this event with him.

Zack loved his family and had a love for playing guitars. You could also find him in his garage using his skills creating different items and replacement parts from scratch. One of his latest projects was making glider chairs.

Zack was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Maudie M. Dowell; brothers, Clarence Dowell, Leonard Dowell, and Robert (Bob) Dowell; and granddaughter, Faith Burdine.

Zack is survived and missed by his children, Allen (Barbara) Dowell, Paula (Ken) Burdine, Mike Dowell, Kenny Dowell, and Ritch (Catherine) Dowell; along with his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31st at Noon at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Homes West, 4400 Dixie Highway. Visitation will be from 10AM until time of service at the funeral home.
