Phyllis Jean Wilt, 67, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on February 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 19, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky, to James and Nora Catherine Whitman.
After attending college, Phyllis dedicated her life to caring for others, becoming a Licensed Nurse Practitioner. She spent 16 years in the nursing profession, where her compassion, patience, and genuine concern for people made a lasting impact on those she served. Helping others was not just her career—it was who she was.
Above all else, Phyllis loved her family. She adored cooking for everyone and believed holidays were meant to be celebrated big, with plenty of food and even more love. Christmas held a special place in her heart, though she also loved Easter and any occasion that brought family together. For Phyllis, holidays were about family, food, and togetherness, and she cherished every moment of it.
In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed playing bingo, cheering on her beloved UofL Cardinals, and spending time with her cherished cats, Lynnox, Lex, and Lilly. She found peace outdoors tending to her flower gardens, taking pride in her plants and flowers. She also loved being on the water, enjoying boating and fishing whenever she could.
Phyllis shared a deep and joyful love with her husband, Sam. Married for five and a half years, they made the most of their time together—attending comedy shows and concerts, traveling on cruises, seeking out warm destinations, and enjoying dinner dates. They treasured every experience side by side.
One of Phyllis’s greatest joys was her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her grandbabies—going shopping, getting their nails and hair done, and making memories together. Even when they came home with brightly colored hair, Phyllis’s heart was full. Time with her grandchildren was truly her favorite.
Phyllis will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of family, her laughter, and the warmth she brought into every room. She leaves behind a legacy of love, care, and unforgettable holiday gatherings that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her son, Justin Jackson; and her parents, James Whitman and Nora Catherine Wilt Whitman.
Left to cherish her memory, Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Samuel Wilt; Children, Misty Jackson (Chris Brown) and Kristen Bension (Nicolas); and 6 grandchildren, Jordan, Jaiden, Lyric, Hadley, Levi, and Callen.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date.
