Sarah Elizabeth Greenwell

Sarah Elizabeth Greenwell, 97, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on February 7, 1929, in Ardmore, Alabama, to Elsy and Lillie Bland.

Sarah worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell, dedicating 19 years of service to the company. She was an extremely crafty woman who loved making her own home décor and accessories to match her outfits. She took great joy in decorating for every occasion and holiday and loved dressing up and going places. One of her favorite places to visit was the American Legion, where she enjoyed spending time and having fun.

Above all, Sarah was a loving and devoted caretaker. She dedicated much of her life to caring for her daughter and was always there whenever she was needed. Her family meant the world to her, and she cherished the simple pleasures of life, including listening to old country music and relaxing with her son, Larry, while sharing a nice cold beer. She also had a unique way of enjoying her cookies and donuts, dipping them in a little Fireball.

Sarah was a fun-loving, caring woman with a personality all her own. She brought joy to those around her and created many special memories that her loved ones will forever treasure.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Sarah is preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred Greenwell; parents, Elsy and Lillie May Bland; and sister, Lois Martin.

Left to cherish her memory, Sarah is survived by her children, Larry Greenwell (Betsy) and Lonna Greenwell.

A private burial will be held at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
