Stephen Earl Collins, 68, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Stephen was born on October 24, 1957, in Louisville, Kentucky, to William and Marcella Collins. He was a proud graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1975, and went on to continue his education at the University of Louisville, where he further developed the sharp intellect that would define much of his life. Stephen continued his love of learning as a teacher, retiring from JCPS after many dedicated years of service.
Highly intelligent and thoughtful, Stephen was a quiet, private man who preferred the comfort of home and close routines. He was a remarkably successful investor, relying not on technology but on his keen mind, careful reasoning, and, as many fondly noted, nothing more than a piece of paper and a pen. His discipline and insight reflected both his intelligence and his independent spirit.
An avid sports fan, Stephen especially loved cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats, following their seasons with enthusiasm and loyalty. Above all else, his greatest joy came from caring for his mother. He embraced the role of caregiver with devotion and love, considering it not a burden but a privilege—one that spoke deeply to his character and heart.
Stephen will be remembered for his intelligence, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Stephen is preceded in death by his father, William Earl Collins; and brother-in-law, Darrell Embry.
Left to cherish his memory, Stephen is survived by his mother, Marcella Embry Collins; sister, Vickie Embry; nephew, Scott Embry (Amanda); and niece, Rachele Bland (Brian), of Richardson, Texas.
Funeral services for Mr. Stephen Collins will be held privately, with burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
