Louisville

Sue Ann Smith, 84, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born on March 15, 1942, in Louisville, Sue was the cherished daughter of Ben and Pauline Sherrard. Throughout her life, she exemplified kindness, devotion, and selflessness, touching the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Sue was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was known by many as the sweetest mom, aunt and grandma and was truly everyone's favorite. Her love for her family knew no bounds. She adored all of her children and grandchildren dearly and never played favorites, making each person feel uniquely loved and valued.

As a devoted mother, Sue was always involved in her children's lives. She proudly served as the room mother at school and became famous among classmates and teachers alike and then later as a friendly face in the school cafeteria. Sue found great joy in caring for others, and her kitchen was often the center of warmth, laughter, and cherished memories where her family enjoyed her delicious chocolate cake and peanut butter candy she lovingly made and shared.

Those who knew Sue will fondly remember her sweet spirit, stubborn determination, big heart, and selfless nature. She had a tender heart and a playful side, often jumping at the slightest unexpected noise, a trait that brought many smiles and affectionate memories over the years.

In her spare time, Sue enjoyed piddling in the yard, happily pulling weeds and tending to her outdoor spaces. She loved working Sudoku puzzles and treasured her girls' trips to Brown County, where laughter and family time created lasting memories.

Sue's greatest joy was her family, and her legacy of unconditional love, generosity, and kindness will continue to live on through them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will remain forever in their hearts.

Sue is preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Marion F. Smith; siblings, Mary Blakeman, Rita Nash, and Alice Yeager; and her parents, Benjamin Franklin Sherrard and Pauline Harris Stamps Sherrard.

Left to cherish her memory, Sue is survived by her children, Wayne Smith and Amy Thorpe (Jonathan); grandchildren, Jeremiah Vance (Heather), Miranda Smith, Nathan Smith (Jorja), and Emily Thorpe; great-grandchildren, Avery Vance and Addison Vance; brother, Paul Sherrard (Donna); brother-in-law, Gary Nash; and many nieces/nephews.
